BODALLA

Bodalla NSW

This week, the rain interrupted my working schedule and so on days like that, its always a great opportunity to go exploring.  It so happens that my husband also had the day off, so I chose to surprise him with a mystery trip to Bodalla to see the Fishing & Maritime Museum. Ladies I can hear the yawning already, but this is actually pretty cool.

Most of you that have driven through Bodalla know the little museum sign on the side of the road and I bet, just like us, you have said to yourself "one day" I will go have a look at that. Well even I got some eye candy in the form of lovely pretties such as seashells, urchins, whale bones, teeth (the sand dollars are just beautiful) and of course starfish. I am a sucker for vintage items, what ever they may be.  The owner Paul has a wealth of knowledge and can tell you anything you need to know about the displays.

The displays showcase a lifetime of personal collections, from foraging on beaches and donations from the public. Grandpa's collection of old fishing paraphernalia that otherwise would of become landfill even has a place here.
The museum has some interesting displays of oddities, novelty and curiosity items as well. It's quite laid back, and an interesting little spot, so be sure to check it out next time you detour down that little road!

As a bonus, Blue Earth Cafe has recently opened in the old Wild Pies site. We stopped for a bite after out tour, as I had heard they grow and pick fresh veggies from the on-site patch for their dishes. It was really yummy food and you just cannot get any fresher than that, folks.  Check out the garden seating area (that ornamental kale in the front is just beautiful).
