INFLORESCENCE - personal project WINTER SERIES

Inflorescence is a year long personal project that started in summer of last year.

One image "asparagus flowers" which was part of the first series was recently chosen out of nearly 13,000 entries to be in the top 201 to exhibit overseas for the annual Art of Photography Show held at the San Diego Institute of Art in October and I couldn't be more thrilled.

iPhone photo - Local coverage of the news was great.

I exhibited the first set of images at Rustic pantry in Moruya and have been hooked on continuing this project.

The final season is ahead and the winter set of images are nearly complete. I have been lucky to be able to photograph all this seasons flowers right here from our little backyard garden.

I am finding keeping to the original style of the first seasons difficult as I tend to want to modify or completely change along the way, however I have also learnt the serenity of being restricted, a nice learning curve.

Because the works are done in Black and White, for this post I wanted to share a couple of iPhone photos of the actual plants and colours of flowers.

MORUYA - ULTIMATE CAMPERS ADVERT

This week I would like share how Ultimate Campers has used my product images to make some great advertising.

Product shoots ALWAYS come with challenges but a huge trailer that is still being built at the time of shoot and cannot leave the factory floor poses all sort of creative thinking to get clear, colour correct shots for their website.

You could be forgiven for saying "I could shoot that!" but I am not sure your could without the know how.

Would you know how to shoot the final image to be convincing on a white background for the website?

Would you know how to eliminate reflections from the wall of windows behind the camera?

Could you colour balance the shot to ensure the whites are white? and, could you do this without reverting to photoshop? because, shooting with a limited knowledge of how will cost you extra time that your not being paid for, or worse! costing the client to pay a graphic artist to do it, not a good way to get return business! getting it done in camera is important!
cut out and used on the website.

FOOD

Running my own business now have to find I ways to keep myself focused and motivated to keep me heading towards my goals.  It so easy to flounder and stay within the warm blankets of comfort.

This weeks challenge was about setting a date and a deadline to complete a project that would assist me within my business to build on my food photography portfolio.  I wanted to use only what I had props wise and keep it simple and focus on the lighting.

I have done a fair amount of food work for restaurants but I wanted to explore the "dark side" a little more and so the challenge was set.  You can certainly see the darkness!

Below is a shot that I took on a weekend away, I am fascinated by it! I love the dapple sunshine and the dark inky tones, slight architectural lines and the warmth of the wood that compliments the cooler tones.  This shot was my inspiration for the week.
